Connected by Conservation: Celebrating the relationships that make conservation possible

It’s time for our annual celebration! Join us at the beautiful Highland Lodge in Greensboro as we recognize our community’s conservation-minded people and organizations. This is an opportunity to celebrate our collective accomplishments with friends, neighbors, and partners throughout our region. Activities will include optional field walks at nearby farms and natural areas (4pm-5:15pm, details below) as well as award presentations, a panel discussion with local leaders, dinner made with fresh, local ingredients and time to chat with VLT staff and fellow attendees (5pm-7pm).

Panel Discussion:

  • John Cannon — Greensboro Land Trust
  • Judy Geer — Craftsbury Outdoor Center
  • Jon Ramsay — Center for an Agricultural Economy
  • Linda Ramsdell — Headwaters Community Trust
  • Jack Travelstead — Northern Rivers Land Trust

Field Walks:

  • Laggis Farm: This family-owned, conserved dairy milks 500 Jersey cows and has worked hard to innovate in the ever-changing dairy industry.
  • Porter Brook Trail: Located on the north shore of Caspian Lake, this one-mile loop trail is adjacent to the Highland Lodge and was conserved in 2018.
  • Mud Pond Forest: Home to northern hardwood forest, a portion of Mud Pond, and a beautiful stretch of old cedar swamp forest with trees up to 200 years old, VLT has owned this property since 2005.
  • Beavers and Restoration: VLT Ecologist Allaire Diamond will lead a walk showcasing restoration techniques that mimic beaver practices. Learn how we work with these amazing animals to improve ecosystem health. (Location TBD)
