A conversation about birds, community, and the power of paying attention.
Join the Vermont Land Trust for a small-group discussion of Birding to Change the Worldby Trish O’Kane, a memoir about birds, community activism, and the ways paying attention to the natural world can inspire us to care for the places we call home.
We’ll gather at VLT’s Pratt Refuge in Duxbury, a property with a rich birding history and a special connection to bird conservation. The evening will begin with a short, optional hike on the refuge, followed by a casual discussion of the book in the refuge’s off-grid cabin. We’ll share refreshments and explore some of the questions raised by O’Kane’s story: What can birds teach us about community? How can our connection to a place inspire action? And how might something as simple as paying attention help us become better stewards of the natural world?
This is a small, informal reading-circle conversation. You don’t need to be an experienced birder or conservationist to participate. Come ready to share your thoughts, listen to others, and talk about a book that asks what it means to find your flock and make a difference.
