Easily accessible education and recreation in the greater Burlington area

Within minutes of Vermont’s most populous towns and cities, but a world away from the traffic and noise, lies Catamount Community Forest. Featuring a mix of open space, forest, and watershed features vital to the area, Catamount serves as an ideal gathering place for the community. In summer months, visitors enjoy activities like mountain biking, hiking, trail running, foraging, and bird-watching. Wintertime brings snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, fat biking, and sledding.

Owned by the Town of Williston and conserved by the McCullough family, Catamount’s plentiful trails were built and are maintained by the Catamount Outdoor Family Center (also started by the McCulloughs). This education and recreation-focused organization continues to steward the property’s trails and host events and programs. It offers a wide range of educational programs, competitive athletic events, camps, clinics, and activities for all ages and abilities. Thanks to thoughtful land management and partnerships with the McCulloughs and various conservation agencies, Catamount has become a model for combining education, conservation, and recreation effectively.
