A Forever Home for Gardens, Farmers, and Community

Putney Common, a beloved one-acre green space, home to the Putney Community Garden and Farmers’ Market, is for sale. Help us secure its future under the ownership of Green Commons of Vermont (GCVT), a local, community-based organization.

We need your support to raise $30,500, the final 20% required for GCVT to acquire the land and establish a management fund. Together, Vermont Land Trust and GCVT have applied for grants covering nearly 80% of the cost.

Benefits for the community

Thriving Community Gardens

Gardeners grow their own food in 70 plots, while building connections. A donation program with the Putney Food Shelf strengthens food security for the local community.

A Vibrant Farmers’ Market

25 vendors offer local dairy and produce, with programs promoting access to affordable, fresh, and healthy food. Cultural events and live music enhance community engagement.

Green Space

Parklets with benches and picnic tables will draw community members to Putney Common for a relaxing respite. Small play areas for children will attract local families, and perennial gardens will attract both bees and cameras.

Next to Housing

This project aligns with the 2023 Putney Town Plan, which prioritizes both affordable housing and the preservation of green space. By acquiring Putney Common, GCVT will ensure these goals are achieved in tandem. Future residents of the adjacent housing development will benefit from easy access to fresh food, gardening opportunities, and a beautiful community space.
