George “Jeep” and JoAnne Madison operate the organic Madison Dairy Farm in Shoreham, together with their son, Will. A few years ago, they purchased a nearby farm from the Wagner family, which they now use to grow hay for their herd of 80 milking cows. Having previously conserved two farms with VLT, they decided to conserve this land as well. The 95-acre property is nestled between other conserved farms and adds to an important stretch of fertile and protected land.

In addition to open farmland, there are two wetland areas and a tributary of the Lemon Fair River. A 50-foot wide area along the tributary will not be plowed or have manure spread on it. The small watershed that supplies water to the tributary is mostly surrounded by farmland, so these additional protections are important for promoting clean water.
