Burt and Lisa Nowers donated a conservation easement on 58 acres of forests, fields, and open wetland. The land was once part of a farm that was originally bought by Burt’s ancestors in 1778. The farm remained in the family until the 1940s. In 2013, Burt and Lisa bought some of the land back again, fixed up a farmhouse built by Burt’s great-great-grandfather, and now enjoy their property seasonally. Their land adjoins other VLT-conserved forestland, creating a 900-acre area of intact forest. “This has been a wonderful re-connection for us and we’re proud to be back in the neighborhood building onto other conserved land,” said Burt.
